Happy Anniversary Will & Kate!

Happy First Anniversary, Will & Kate!

It seems like just yesterday that I was camped outside Westminster Abbey
standing for 8 hours without a break to rest my legs,
watching people act like total fools....
but oh man,
it was worth it!

I will never forget watching the Queen pop out of the car in canary yellow dress,
William and Harry grinning to each other as they arrived for the service,
and Kate turning and waving to us before walking down the aisle.

The whole day felt like Christmas...
the atmosphere was electric
& I still can't believe I got to witness it firsthand.

For a trip down memory lane,
click back to see the photos from my day at
The Royal Wedding!

PS. I'm still waiting for us to become best friends...
I know it's been hard with me being in France.
I'll be back soon though & we can get down to business.

Marion Cotillard- FOURSALE

Women here in France have such great style.

Where some people might attribute "messy hair" to Pinterest,
I credit the streets of Paris.

There is just an intelligently-disheveled look that I like very much.

Floppy buns tied messily into hair,
with faces shining simply with lipgloss.

Corduroy coats with toggles up top,
and opaque tights with worn flats below.

All together it creates a look that feels like Hermione Granger gone indie....

And it's awesome.

The girl that does this best {in my eyes} is Marion Cotillard.

Sure, she can look pristine on the Red Carpet....

She can look stunning in advertisements....

But my favorite look,
is the look that I first started liking in "The Good Year."

Perfectly simple. Perfectly French.

And how can I channel her loveliness?

Well that might be impossible,
but you better believe I'm going to try.

Miss Dior Cherie, $80 | Bioderma Make Up Remover €15.25 | TopShop Striped Dress, £15

And today, I'm offering a FOURSALE of my favorite French cosmetic product....
BIODERMA Crealine H2O Make-Up Remover.

I bet you've heard of it, haven't you?

I first learned about it from Gwyneth on GOOP
and have been a believer since I furiously ran out and bought some.

This pink-capped bottle is legendary here...
and only here, as it not widely sold outside of France.

It's like putting water on your face, it's seriously so gentle.
No stinging eyes. No oily residue.

Just a perfectly clean face.

I went to grab a bottle for Helena the other day,
threw in a bottle for myself...
and thought that some of you might want some, too.

It's seriously fantastic... and the bottles are really big.
{I just finished off a bottle after 1 year.}

As always, first come... first served.

Downton Abbey- Your New Favorite Thing

I always assume everybody already watches Downton Abbey;
however, I have grown increasingly alarmed
to learn that some of you still have not jumped in to the series.

Here's the deal...
you need to.

You, just, really do.

Watch this clip
and I double dog dare you to resist
the lure of Downton.

The fabulous plots,
the costumes,
the gorgeous English backdrop...
Maggie Smith's hilarious one liners.

Everything about Downton Abbey is just so perfect.

It's like Pride & Prejudice meets Sophia Coppola meets The Titanic.

If you thought Will & Kate brought England back on the style map,
this is going to be the next (and dare I say, larger?) wave of English style
to sweep the pop-culture scene & re-establish the British Empire.

The final straw to convince you that you need to watch it?

It's reportedly the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge's favorite show.

A Day with The Queen... & A Smile from Charles

I admit that some of the things
I get to do are completely ridiculous.

Life in England has given me the chance
to partake in some amazing moments & celebrations...
and I haven't lost the hunger to try & find them.

One of the more memorable of these came today,
the day the Queen & I crossed paths.

(And for real this time... not across the street like at the Royal Wedding.)

This year marks the 400th anniversary of the translation
of the King James Bible.

Today in Westminster Abbey,
the Queen, Prince Phillip, & Prince Charles
that was led by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

And, gosh darn it, I did, too.

My friend, Grace, inherited some tickets
that an old friend won in the lottery
held by the King James Trust.

When Grace's husband couldn't leave work,
I got to play second fiddle...

and was the happiest fiddle in the world.

Grace, being responsible & prompt,
got there early when the doors opened
and scored seats on the front row.

I, being late & a maniac,
was happy to see her prime location upon arrival.

After about an hour,
the crowd grew silent...
the scene from outside the door illuminated in camera flashes...
and the party started.

The Queen walked past & nodded hello.
Prince Phillip walked past and nodded hello...
but when Charles walked by and saw two euphoric, grinning Americans,
broke his composed face and smiled at us.

I pretty much blacked out after that.

The End.

Actually, I do remember the service.

It was gorgeous
and a great tribute the huge impact
that this translation has had on the world.

The choir was, in the most cliche terms, angelic
and we listened to the thoughts & prayers
of some faithful leaders of the Anglican church.

Afterwards, the Royals all processed out
and, so kindly, nodded at us once more...

We made our exits from the Abbey with the crowd...

and glowed all the way home.

I'm not sure if this would be your cup of tea...
but it sure was for my taste!

The BBC news clip is here...

A Hump Day Treat

Looking at these people is like standing before fine art.

They might be in black in white,
but with cheek bones & faces like theirs...

we get the picture.

Olsen twins, Diane Kruger, Kate Moss...

Robert Downey Jr, Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper...

Honestly...

I just can't handle the all the pretty DNA in one place.

Three Continents. Three Weeks.

It's been nearly three weeks since I returned from India,
the day after returning from an amazing trip to Italy...

Today I've found myself buried with work today
and with a last minute flight to the states on Saturday.

My body is getting rocked with jet lag this summer.

As an olive branch to you,
dear blogging friends,
for putting up with my silence, neglect, and absence
over the past, present, and future weeks.

I present to you...
cute pictures of
Prince Harry.

I hope it suffices...
because it's the best this time-starved blogger has to offer.

To all the rest of you paddling hard to keep up this week,
keep going.

You can do it!

Kiss Me Kate.

Seriously.

This makes me have a crush on Kate Middleton.

Err, I mean...
the Duchess of Cambridge.

Our royal couple is looking so svelte & gorgeous...
they might put Brangelina on the run.

But what would we call them?

Wate?
Kill?

Yeah, err...

Maybe just Duke & Duchess will do for now.

Matchbook Strikes My Fancy.

After years of trying to get editors
to put my clients in the spotlight...

I have, somehow, ended up in it myself.

Look for me in the newest & grooviest issue yet

I feel pretty darn special.

So special that I'm eating clearance easter candy
and listening to Billy Joel
to celebrate my coolness.

{That is cool, isn't it?}

I just love Matchbook...
and I'm so flattered they liked me back!

P.S.
Guess who is also featured
in this month's issue?

That's right,
Miss GP herself.

So even though Gwynnie & I may be twelve pages away,
we're actually one step closer
to being the best of friends.

... well, assuming she likes caramel bunnies & Uptown Girl, too.

The (UNSEEN) Royal Wedding Pictures

Do you feel like you've seen the same pictures rotated over and over again through the internet
of Will & Kate on their big day?

I do.

(Ha. Get it? Because we're like talking about weddings?)

Those pictures are pretty dreamy,
but I love looking through the pictures from our camera...
cause it makes me feel cool.

These photos are, admittedly, not as good as
the AP photography you've seen in papers & online.

Those guys had a pretty good height advantage
over me up in the press box... but I'm not complaining.

In fact, I wouldn't trade my perch for most anything in the world.

Well, except a Birkin. I would have definitely thought about it for a Birkin.

So for those that have asked
(and even those that haven't)

... here is this half-jokingly obsessed,
American-in-England's
view of her day at
The Royal Wedding.

I'll try my best to cut to the good parts,
since I know your blog roll is quite heavy this morning...

Prince William and Prince Harry arrived.
Didn't they look cute?

You could just hear the sighs of all the girls in the crowd
as he walked in the chapel doors
and off the market forever.

The most eligible bachelor had made himself, permanently, ineligible.

Then, the moment that
(not to be dramatic)
kind of changed my life.

When Kate Middleton arrived.

Kate got out of the car,
gathered herself,
 and stared at the crowd.

From where we stood, the sun beamed so brightly off her dress,
it left her beaming like an angel.

I may, or may not have, have compared her to a patronus.

(editor's note: my husband recommended I retire that reference at the risk of being a dork. oops.)

It seemed like a million years as she stood there and stared at the crowd (us!)
before her face broke into that lovely smile,
and the crowd (us!) went wild.

There Kate was. A normal girl.
Just like any of us.

Standing there so peacefully and happily...

about to change her entire life.

Most people would claim that their lives changed on their wedding days,
but for Kate Middleton, it was much deeper and significant.

At that moment, the world saw her committing to spend the rest of her life with William
and accept all the standard risk in sharing your life with another person...

(growing apart, unfaithfulness, family issues, weight gain, etc.)

But unlike any other woman in the world,
Kate Middleton was fused into a world of scrutiny & expectations.

... cameras, rules, isolation, engagements, secrecy ...

As exciting of a notion it was
to witness a normal girl become a princess,
a very bittersweet feeling enveloped the moment.

I think my heart was about to beat out of my chest.

Since we were so close to the abbey, there wasn't a broadcast of the ceremony on our block
to prevent the noise from disrupting the actual service inside.

Once Kate waved goodbye and the abbey doors closed,
the crowd began buzzing
with recounts of the amazing moments they had just witnessed.

the four of us- tired but very excited!

As we retold our perspectives with those around us,
no Brit standing nearby had a dry eye.

As Americans, we see the Royal Family as this amazingly posh celebrity family,
like the Trumps, the Hiltons, or the Beckhams.

People that elect to live in the spotlight.

But here in the UK, there is a calmer attitude towards the Windsors.

One that involves less celeb hysteria and more of a remorseful pity
for this family that never chose this attention...

They have been born into it and left without any other option
but to be constrained to it's perimeters
 and thrive within them.

This split of opinion between how the Royal Family is perceived
became suddenly clear earlier this month
as I was riding in a taxi around the Mall.

The driver leaned over his shoulder and said:
"We're passing the Queen's Prison."

I looked up to see Buckingham Palace pass by.

"It's not a life to want, is it?" he asked.

As hard as it is as an American to feel sorry for the Royals
with their castles, their good bone structure, their obscene wealth...
the British seem to view all those "perks" as necessary means to cope
with such immense pressure and confined lives of service.

It's an interesting perspective to consider.

After the ceremony, the bells began the first of their three hour ringing.

The crowd got back up to their perches and waited for the long walk down the aisle.

They walked through the abbey doors,
and oh my, didn't they look happy?

I thought so.

And I hope they are.

I somehow ended up standing next to the Royal Family Photographer,
during the ceremony and as the royal family watched
the Duke & Duchess climb into their carriage.

We started talking as I read an article in the paper that featured
a picture of Charles, Diana, and 10 month old William.
He pointed to it and smiled: "I took that picture."

When I asked if he had been to Charles and Diana's wedding,
he told me yes- and the one before that.
This is his fourth generation of Royals to photograph.

As I stuttered to comprehend what a vault of memories he must have stored away,
I asked him which generation was his favorite.

He laughed and said:
"I hope this one will be. I'm starting to have my doubts on the others."

I think everyone feels the same.

The world is excited to watch how William & Kate
change the role of the British Monarchy.

... and how they will rock the style pages for years to come ...

Monday Mood: I feel... enchanted.

The Royal Wedding was this weekend,
and as you probably know, I was there.

(It was SO fun getting to tweet with you all through the morning!)

Two friends and I went to London the night,
chummed around with all the campers in the Mall,
and revelled in the electric atmosphere pulsing through London.

campers outside Westminster Abbey on Thursday

NBC's set up in Trafalgar Square

I met my "Will!"

It felt like Christmas Eve,
but even bigger-
because you knew this would only happen once.

On Friday morning, we camped out in spaces right below the press box
(directly under The Today Show)
and about 100 feet from Westminster's Abbey Doors.

our view... perfect.

It was crowded, it was exhausting, and really dirty...
but getting to see Kate as she looked at the crowd
(well, as she looked at "us!")
is something that I will honestly never forget.

In fact, I may never be able to tell it without getting emotional.
There wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Then watching the couple load up in their carriage
and start their ride into "Happily Ever After,"
I can only describe as a surreal moment.

And I have so much more to say,
but am waiting to get my "real" pictures from my friend
before I do a more thorough review/detailing of what & who we saw in London
(not everyone uses an iPhone to document their life)...
but in the meantime can I just show you these snaps from my phone?

the four of us... bright and early at 5 am!

Living as an American is a great privilege, but to be honest...
being in the middle of such an amazing moment in history
kinda made me wish our ancestors couldn't have left on better terms
 during the Revolutionary War.

It's not hard to see why Brits were feeling so patriotic on Friday.

It was a great day!

... Oh, and what could have added to this amazing day of British fabulousness?...

(Besides getting to see Posh & Becks pull up next to us in their Rolls?Which happened!)

Winning this J Lhuillier Union Jack clutch!

It's perfect, isn't it??

I'm thrilled to have won the giveaway
for this hand beaded beauty.

Icing on the (wedding) cake!

The Big Day.

It's here.

(Well, THE big day is actually tomorrow.)

But today I leave for London
to kick off this Royal Wedding.

I wish I were actually going to the ceremony,
but staying in a flat literally 50 yards from the Abbey doors
isn't such a bad set up either.

(I really love this website for finding GREAT places to stay.)

The media coverage has been crazy
and it seems like now everyone wants talking about
how tired they are hearing about the royal wedding...
but honestly-
I don't buy it.

How could anyone be sick of Royal Wedding anything?

We all secretly love it.

The Royal Family was the first reality family for the world.
We are all curious to watch them partake in milestone events,
and the fact that William is marrying a "regular" girl, just like any of us,
makes it all the more intriguing.

My friend, Julie, sent me this article from NY Mag
that explains the inner rankings of the English upper crust
and Kate's cold welcome into Britain's higher tier.

Come on, admit it.
The Royal Wedding isn't "over" yet...
the fun is just beginning!

While you are at it...
go ahead and admit that these Will & Kate items are pretty funny.

I'll be tweeting from the streets of Westminster for the next day.

Follow along for my pics, shots, and all the other hilarity that is sure to abound.

How are you celebrating tomorrow?
Or are you "over it?"

Bloggers: We're Just Like You...

Does anyone else ever read blogs and start to think:

"Wow. I wish I could be cool like them."

"That blogger has a real house that they designed that looks amazing...
what clean, Nordic, modern, & photogenic offspring she has...
and how do they afford the entire JCrew catalogue every season?"

Because to be honest:
 I do.

... but I've started wondering:
Maybe I do that to people who read my blog.

I mean, I live in England
with a really cute boy,
and get paid to travel.

I can see how it sounds really great.

{It is actually...}

But I'm sure that if we passed each other on the street,
you wouldn't take a second glance.

I'm a normal girl... who gets to edit how she appears in blogging.

So to be fair,
I'm going to let my guard down a bit

...because this blog should be equal parts glam & real life.

Afterall... I am only an Aspiring Kennedy...
not actually the heiress to any Northeastern trust fund.

In this first installment,
I would like to shame myself with a special series of photos.

See, I love celebrities,
especially royal ones...

... which is why I had to buy this Kate Middleton mask
and slap it on at random
while my friends were in town.

The worst part about it
{besides the knock off engagement rings we bought}
was that we died laughing
every. single. time.

So if I misled you to think I was a svelte, posh, person,

I apologize:

I am actually severely ridiculous.

Happy Friday!!
