If you’ve ever travelled to England, you’ve probably heard a joke about having tea with the Queen. It’s not something I joke about. I hold the idea very very probable. (I have big plans for my friendship with Kate.) But if you have been to London, or, perhaps more importantly, are heading to London- browse through some of my favourite spots to have tea in this glorious city.
And just so we’re clear about a few things…
‘Afternoon Tea’ is the term for the little afternoon treat (typically 2-4pm) of three-tiered tea trays stacked with sandwiches, scones + cream/jam, and sweet cakes & treats on top.
‘High Tea’ is a term that refers to a near meal, and is not used here in reference to the fancy tea service I mention in the #1.
If you have no clue what type of tea to get, order English Breakfast. Pour in a splash of milk (not too much- it shouldn’t look greyish!), toss in a sugar (if you like) and stir with confidence that you’re drinking a very classic cup of tea.
When it comes to scones, there’s a bit of a debate over what to put on first: cream or jam. There’s actually no debate. It’s always cream then jam, in my opinion.

Came across some old footage of our previous study abroad group's trip to the Houses of Parliament for afternoon tea! It was my first time, and we absolutely loved it! If you're in London or plan on traveling there soon, this might be something you want to book (especially if you're planning on touring the Houses of Parliament anyway).
